Some of the floorboards were in need of replacement after being repeatedly taken up and re-fitted (badly) over the years re sulting in gaps, splits and draughts! the reduced rack at our local B&Q provided some nice quality pine T&G floorboards.
Removing the old boards was a bit brutal & raised the inevitable question when dealing with old houses "Where do we stop?".... however a decision was made & the groove of the last old board cleaned up ready to accept the tongue of the first new board...

This weekend saw it almost finished... doors hung & panelled, shiplap fitted around the door frame & gable

Should have had the official, & long awaited "topping out" ceremony today as the last of the ridge pieces went on. We only had enough of the proper stuff for just over half the roof but managed to find a piece of "U" section coated steel which was wide enough for me to cut down with an angle grinder to give two pieces of to cover the rest of the ridge.













and on Sunday we almost completed the cladding, rigged up a solar panel to charge some batteries & covered the two windows we are still need to find glass for...

 Another reasonably productive weekend... & there's still another day to go!

The main doors got started on Saturday, all the mortices & tenons cut... Sunday morning saw one door glued up with the lipping pinned around the inside to fix the cladding onto. By the end of Sunday afternoon it was hinged & the lower half clad with the remains of the old shed roof!

 

 The Fiesta still runs & was having its tyres pumped up before being tested up the track a couple of times... all seemed ok so it was moved outside to allow the tractor to be moved into the garage to sort the drive belt & fit the float to the carb (when it arrives from the US!)

A varied morning at the mill today...

We're still deciding what to do about the heating oil tank that was holed by thieves who stole the contents a few weeks ago.

Before we can do anything we have to empty the remaining oil from the existing 2,500l tank... so far we've pumped out 550l & there is still some more left... we filled up all the available containers today...

 We now have the use of a De walt thicknesser too


















A large heavy vice was also in need of attention.... this originally had a quick release mechanism, but this had long gone, so I made up a steel strip (the bit diagonally accross the vice near the mounting holes). This effectively keeps the half nut engaged perninantly with the thread byforcing it upwards, which is what the spring in the original quick-release would have done...
