Honda C90 '89 piston & barrel change

After a week or so being used as a daily ride to work, it was obvious that there must be some wear somewhere as the exhaust had more than a hint of two-stroke & too much oil was being used... We happened to have another barrel & piston which looked to be pretty good so we decided to swap them over & see if that cured the problem....

An hour or so later & it was running again... minus the smoke this time so hopefully its cured that problem?

The White Mill Sandwich

Further progress on getting the lathe running today...we glued all the pulleys that were turrned last week & made up the mounting for the motor. This will be fitted to the wall behind the lathe.

To cut the angle iron pieces for this we used the donkey saw we restored a few weeks ago...

Ford Fiesta 1.8D '94

Well... the disapointment this week was that it failed its MOT test. The guy at the garage hinted that it wasnt worth doing etc etc.... however having rescued it from a broken pump drive belt earlier this year we didnt feel inclined to give up quite so easily!
So, having bought a gas-less MIG welder a few weeks ago (for something else) we decided to tackle that part of the failure list first! there were two rust holes, no more than 2" dia each side on the front part of the floor near the door hinge. not enough to weaken the structure but as they are within 300mm of a suspension mounting point, they were a failure item.

This is what we found when the carpets were taken up...

The other side cleaned up with the angle grinder, ready for welding...

& this is the patch welded in place, ready for painting... as MIG welding skills are still at the development stage I decided to weld it on the inside rather than try to weld upside down!!

Now we need to do the other failure points... drive shaft boot, servo & indicatators...

A week later & the fiesta is ready to hit the road again for another year... total cost about £25...

Peugeot 106... progress at last...

New injector pump fitted, flat battery, jump start, no luck, tow start... result!

New pump fitted minus all the "security" devices! plunger from the fuel cut-off valve was removed to make sure there was nothing that would stop fuel getting through, the only way to stop the engine now is to stall it in gear, but that should be easy to rectify so that it stops on the key. I guess I'll look for a cable near the engine that shows 12v when the ignition is on & hook it up to that...
Having gone to all this trouble, I'll be changing the timing belt now too!

The White Mill Sandwich

This weekend we made a set of flat belt pulleys for the layshaft which will hopefully drive the lathe...
The second picture is the largest pulley being turned whilst mounted on a faceplate on the lathe (yes, that was home made too!) the pulleys were given the convex surface similar to those on the headstock spindle of the lathe. I think that serves to keep the belt in place...

Cool iPod or iPhone accoustic amplifier

A really cool idea got bounced around at work this week... An acoustic amplifier for an iPod or iPhone...
Interesting...

Sandwich Windmill

An unusual cloud formation this morning... the clouds seemed to be pointing towards Sandwich!

The lathe got a little closer to being powered again this morning... we mounted the layshaft under the joists of the floor above the lathe, the next job is to make up a mounting for the motor...

Krys' Garage

This weekend saw it almost finished... doors hung & panelled, shiplap fitted around the door frame & gable

Peugeot 106... The saga continues

Finally got round to installing the replacement injector pump today... Not sure yet how successful I've been as I couldn't get it started on my own...

Honda C90 '89

This has been an on-going project for a year or so since it was acquired along with a car full of assorted classic C90 parts. Insured & ready for MOT...

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight BBMF

I saw the Lancaster fly low over home on Saturday so took a trip over to Manston Airport to see if they had landed there... unusually I was able to get quite close (albeit the other side of a fence)...

Honda PC50 1970

After a bit more investigation the lack of spark was traced to the contact breaker... some of the fibre insulating washers were missing...
Once that was sorted (by borrowing a set of points from another engine I just happen to have) the little Honda started up... minus the exhaust at first, so it was a bit noisy, but it started really easily! Even more impressive considering the last time it was road registered was 1979...
Once the exhaust was re-fitted & the carb set up it ticked over like the proverbial sewing machine!

Still a few more bits to sort... front brake cable, new brake shoes would be nice & the dip switch only works intermittently.... nothing too difficult

Morris Minors at Sandwich windmill

This Bank Holiday afternoon the Mill hosted a gathering of Morris Minors courtesy of the Morris Minor Club East Kent (www.ekmm.co.uk)

I just had to join....

Watsonian Junior sidecar

This unusual item appeared at the mill last week. A Watsonian childs sidecar, too small to fit to a motorcycle, I'd say, more likely to have been used with a bicycle or autocycle/moped?
Complete & in reasonable condition (except for the woodworm!)

I need to find out more...

Sandwich Windmill

An old lathe that was donated several years ago whish has been on our list of things to "sort out" recieved some attention this morning...
The lathe is largely complete & looks at if it was originally drven by a flat belt from an overhead shaft. It came to us with a 3/4HP 1425RPM electric motor which I repaired last year (the centrifugal contact which disconnects the starter coils once operating speed has been reached had siezed).
We intend to make up an overhead shaft & mount it above the lathe on the joists of the floor above the lathe, this layshaft will be driven from the motor via a vee belt. I'm thinking that the motor will be mounted on the wall behind the lathe... but that might change as things progress...
