Sandwich windmill

This morning we started to examine the roof of one of the outbuildings on the mill site. This is an old shed, most likely used to house a cart when the mill was in use & although it's been repaired in the past, it looks "right" so really needs to be repaired in a way sympathetic to its current condition...

However as the old boards were removed the full horror of what awaits us revealed itself...

Morris Minor 1000 1958

The start (or more accurately, the next instalment) of a story that has been running for the past 35yrs...
After a few years use the Morris was re-built by me during the '80's the rusted areas of panels were cut out & new metal welded in, I used oxy-acetylene to make the welds... & everything was then cleaned back to bare metal & protected as much as possible... Seems to have worked as it's satisfying to find that 30yrs later the majority of the panels I made & fitted then are still perfectly sound!
It's now time to attend to the areas that have inevitably deteriorated since.
The plan is to reduce the car to a rolling shell, get the metalwork sorted & then a bare metal re-spray & back home for re-assembly...
Yesterday saw the start of the disassembly process...

Leisure 17

Donated to is last year is a 17' daysailer with what looks to be a Leisure 17 hull with a ply deck. In need of some work, well it was for free! But with the advantage of being complete with motor, sails etc. it's been stored under cover for a year so it's now completely dry.
We moved it into the newly completed garage so it can take its place in the queue of things to be done!

Sandwich white mill rural heritage centre

Some good progress on powering the old lathe over the last couple of weeks, the motor is now mounted on the wall behind the lather & the layshaft is mounted under the floor above... It all rotates smoothly, the home-made wooden pulleys are surprisingly concentric!
The motor is now mounted to the wall behind the lathe & connected via a single vee belt to the pulleys previously installed under the floor above the lathe ... All seems to run smoothly when the motor is switched on.
The next problem to solve is what to use as a drive between the layshaft & the lathe... An old leather belt? A piece of seatbelt webbing?
