Peugeot 106 driveshaft replacement

A knocking noise when pulling away with the wheels pointing anyway but straight ahead suggested that a driveshaft might be worn... The left side was replaced first...

The easy way of doing this job is to drop the lower wishbone, thus allowing the leg to be swung outwards so that the driveshaft can be removed.
The rear mounting is released by un-doing two nuts from inside the footwell, the front is a single pivot bolt. This is much easier than removing the brake calliper & releasing the lower ball joint...

Peugeot 106... progress at last...

New injector pump fitted, flat battery, jump start, no luck, tow start... result!

New pump fitted minus all the "security" devices! plunger from the fuel cut-off valve was removed to make sure there was nothing that would stop fuel getting through, the only way to stop the engine now is to stall it in gear, but that should be easy to rectify so that it stops on the key. I guess I'll look for a cable near the engine that shows 12v when the ignition is on & hook it up to that...
Having gone to all this trouble, I'll be changing the timing belt now too!

Peugeot 106... The saga continues

Finally got round to installing the replacement injector pump today... Not sure yet how successful I've been as I couldn't get it started on my own...

The life & times of a Peugeot 106 1.5D

After many phone calls & searches (& several hours of my time) I finally took the plunge & removed the suspect injector pump. I've convinced myself that the pump is faulty. I've based this diagnosis on two things:
  • despite the fact that fuel is being delivered to the pump, nothing seems to be coming out of the high pressure side?
  • the car has been run on vegeatable oil & it would seem that CAV  Lucas pumps dont like that?
Anyway today I took it to Injection Developments near Canterbury & left it with them to, hopefully, find out what we're up against.

The life & times of a Peugeot 106 1.5D

The Jury is still out on the non-starting problem of car #2, research so far would seem to point to the injector pump as being the guilty part. Hopefully more research will lead to confirnation of that this week?
Car #1 had a replacement lefthand driveshaft fitted, during which it was noticed that the brake pads were down to their last few miles, so they were replaced later the same day

The Peugeot 106 saga continues

This is the modified bracket before re-fitting

The injector pump with the cover removed (eventually!) the shut-off valve is the silver thing

This is the original set-up the shut-off valve is just below the blue connector (under the steel cover)

After two hours spent chiseling, hacksawing, grinding & punching we eventually managed to remove the cover from the fuel shut-off valve. I unscrewed the valve & removed the plunger to stop it working. The valve body was replaced, along with a heavily modified security cover (this forms the lower bracket as well as the throttle cable mount so could'nt be junked completely). Injector pipes & cables then went back on... checked fuel flow to pump, cracked open #1 inj pipe, cranked engine...
Nothing...
tried a tow start.... still nothing.... gave up

The life & times of a Peugeot 106 1.5D

There are two of these... one currently wont start, I suspect the fuel shut-off solenoid valve on the injector pump. Normally I wouldn't expect this to be too difficult to eliminate/rectify? in the case of this car though, the cut-off valve is covered by a "security" cover of hardened steel secured by shear-head bolts... what were they thinking?
Tomorrows first job will be to get the three bolts out & remove the cover, then test the solenoid valve...

the other one needs its n/s drive shaft replacing...
